  • Thanks for the advice. From the information in the manual I thought that interferences or gaps are dealt with without causing stress, because it says: "Elastic, CCX solver: This creates elastic springs between the surfaces. As with Tie, the no…

  • maybe with dummy beams and a force pair on those dummy beams?
  • Thanks for checking! The model is just a random example without a use case apart from me unterstanding how it works. Tilting the base was for me to try how translation the ROT NODE leads to rotation of the rigid body. Stiffness was still on a h…
  • Thats my very simple take on it, though I'm not completely shure it is done right, I'm just starting to play around with custom cards: The model is a one element cube. The top face is fixed. On the bottom face there is a compression only support. T…
  • Hi Disla, thanks for the explanation. Another drawback of the idea with spider gap elements would be, I think, that the element orientation of the gap elements does not change with their rotation. So if large rotations happen, it would probably los…
  • Would that be the same as using "spider-gap-elements" to connect all nodes of the hole with a central node which is the end node of the spring?
  • The rod-side works quite nicely with moving loads now (heat flux, convection and radiation) For the block I'll try the forced concetion / fluid network element.
  • Hi, thanks for the hint, I'll have a Look at it.
  • maybe I am on to something by moving the heat source (heat flux) using unittriangle function and not considering the block for now...
  • I did some testing on a 100 mm cube: left: shell model, right: solid model. Element orientation identical to global coordinates.DeltaT=-100K Shell material, one layer Solid material So far, no thermal expansion defined for shells, results as e…
  • Yes, that would be an improvement.
  • Yes, easier for sure. But thats only possible if the u-axis is normal the the "surface", or am I missing something? When using orthotropic material (composites), usually u-axis is fiber direction, v-axis is transverse direction an w-axis is thi…
  • Hey Disla, thanks for the heads-up! Works pretty well for a cylinder, also if it is not centered at zero. So in theory, it should work for all shapes that can be described by a function, although it might get a bit complicated / impractical with…
  • Thanks for the hint. That might be helpful in some case, I'll try that.
  • ok, so I tried again with the parameter set to 1000 GB and it finished without error but of course again no faster. The sky is the limit.
  • @cwharpe for IIW I need stress information at very specific Locations depending in mesh size and If I want to pic nodes I would have a have nodes at these specific locations which would be a pain when meshing. With the interpolated plot/table it w…
  • The solver finished with the parameter beeing set to 190 but it was no quicker compared to the parameter being set to 100GB So it seems that it does not hurt to set it as high as you like as long as you stay below the installed RAM.
  • Hi @Victor, the components that are needed for weld assessment accornding to FKM "Analytical Strength Assessment" are: Stress normal to weld Stress parallel to weld shear stress normal to weld shear stess parallel to weld as shown in this image: …
  • The good thing when the solver fails is that I dont have to wait too long. Setting the Parameter to 200 caused the P-9 error (the machine has 192 GB RAM) and the parameter has again be reset to zero. Ill try 190 GB next, so just below installed RAM.
  • If the parameter is set to a value greater than the available RAM, I get P-9 error shortly after the solving matrix phase beginns (so seting it to infinity by default may not be a good idea). I had the parameter set to 1000 GB which is above the cap…
  • Setting the value to 160 GB gave me no further improvements. Solving time is nearly identical compared to the parameter beeing set to 100 GB. I'll try setting a value that is higher than the available RAM and see what happens.
  • Setting the parameter to 100 GB makes the entire Solutuon about 45% faster compared to the parameter beeing set to 20 GB which is mainly due to the solving mateix phase that goes down from approx. 6h 15 min to 3h 30 min. Rocketship.... …
  • Parameter set to 100 GB:
  • I assume the diagram would show membrane, membrane+ bending and peak stress for all the stress components in SCL coordinate system? It would be convinient to have mm on the x-axis and in the table in addition to the points 1 to 99 like in the scre…
  • Seems to work with above value set to 20 GB on the Workstation: Allocation phase and assembling Phase also seem quite a bit quicker in V20 compared to V20Beta. Dont know if due the above parameter (20GB) or due to the solve improvements. trying …
  • OK, thank you, that sounds promising. I'll let you know if I can make out any improvements.

  • OK, i'll just try it out when I get the chance and let you know. The Laptop hast 64 GB by the way so it should have enough RAM available to use or try to exeed the specified value of 14.4 GB.
  • Thanks for the new Verseion @Victor ! Has the internal solver become faster even compared to mecway200_Beta3?
in Version 20.0 Comment by kuhl July 2023
  • Hi @Victor to be honest I don't quite understand what you mean. You are suggesting that reducing the value in Mecway with the labs option might help although the P-9 error is caused if it is set too low. If the Workstation may wants to use more tha…
