¿Why is beta damping not working?
I’m slowly understanding better how explicit works.
High frequency excitations are controlled through a different parameter on the dynamic card.
it's time to give the ball a good kick.
Hi Victor,
I’m in love with those integrals added to the Solution tree. One can track Position of the center of mass, overall Kinetic and Potential energy balance,...
I think we could even compute the probability of failure for brittle materials (W…
Hi,
I have done some test on the new tool features based on a given reference (*) and deviation has end up below 0.17%. (Even better than the Ansys reference)
Things found on the test:
1-I can't change the SCL direction. Even switching the poin…
Not really but it’s easy to understand.
My model is considerably pre-heated before operation. Once heated, It is intended to work on that temperature range it’s whole life.
The expansion process is controlled as much as possible with lateral guides…
Custom model definition gets put immediately before the first automatically generated *STEP section
I think that's the issue. *RESTART,READ must be at the very beginning of the inp itself not the *step block.
didn't even know that it would be a …
HI Mishal,
What about applying some pressure on the outer surface of the truss. (Time dependent pressure).?
If you set up the truss material as incompressible the beam will not have other option that elongate or shorten to preserve the volume depen…
HI, pberry
“I tried changing the analysis type from Nonlinear Static 3D to Static 3D”
You are still in nonlinear analysis. Static GUI but NLGEOM=ON triggered by contact or some material nonlinearity.
Check all contacts are bonded Elastic or better…
Hi adg,
Are you sure your problem has Steady State Solution?
There is no initial temperature in Steady State ¿isn't it?.
By other hand 0 @ 0°C . mmmmmh
Could you try 0.0001 @ 0°C or -400 @ -200°C .
Regards
ccx Manual says classical von Mises-Huber yield condition applies.
This condition is evaluated at the integration points.
s.xx are also below 200MPa there.
Plasticity is better captured with solid elements.

If you look at the beam integration points you will find that VM Stress is below the yield point. Node values are extrapolated and are not accurate enought for the element/mesh selection.
stresses (elem, integ.pnt.,sxx,syy,szz,sxy,sxz,syz) for set…
Thank you, Victor ,
I have calculated the first expected oscillating period by hand. I have found the same formula in at least 3 different sources, and they all agree.
For a cylindrical shaped tank, Diameter=20m and depth H=25m, the expected first …
Hi,
¿Is there someone with experience computing elevation and oscillation period of enclosed water waves with the above proposal. I mean taking advanage of the paralelism with the available 2D acoustic vibration analisys :
Acoustic -> Fluid

You could do that with Netgen too. Just set up the Quad dominant.
The minimum number of elements per curvature and edge can’t be less than 1.
By other hand, your step has different parts. Try merging them before exporting.
It shows some intersec…
Hi Hooshim
This Step is suitable to extrude or even revolve.
Use a good quality algorithm to get a surface mesh.
I suggest a Gmsh custom command.
Mesh.Algorithm = 11;
Mesh.MeshSizeMax = 2;
Mesh.MeshSizeMin = 2;
Mesh.MeshSizeFactor = .5;
Mesh.Elem…
HI Victor ,
Not sure if you are working on this subject for final v.20 but I think kinematic could be reinstated. In fact, it has more versatility than Rigid body if it were defined through the nodes and not through the surface as it is now.
R…
.
If "a" dimension is very close to "1.5b" it fails.
This doesn't happen if you switch a by b.
a=149mm
b=100mm works
a=150mm
b=100mm fails
a=298mm
b=200mm works
a=300mm
b=200mm fails
HI,
There seems to be some conflict with the application of shared BC for arbitrary beam orientations.
It could be solved adding a common orientation which is always recommended for beams.
