Mecway 34

Mecway 34 is now available at the link below and includes the Spanish language manual translated by Germán Bresciano.

This is currently a release candidate so it has a higher risk of new bugs. If no serious bugs are found, it will be promoted to a stable release, otherwise it will be superseded by version 35.

What's new

GUI
Multiple selection in outline tree. More convenient for deleting or suppressing multiple items, assigning a material to multiple components, etc.
Face selections have a “Set # selected geometry surfaces” command to replace the selection with a new one or nothing.
Command to duplicate a material.
Configurable size for graphics symbols, 25% to 200%.
Tools menu remains enabled when Open cracks or Exploded view are active.
Loads with axis-aligned vector values are displayed with the axis and direction in the outline tree. Eg: “gravity <-Y 10m/s²>”
Configurable minimum resolution for beams on contour plot.
Beam section properties available as variables in solution formulas.
Added MPa/mm unit for stiffness per unit area.
Removed “Remove elements” from component context menu. Add them to another compnent instead.
Materials and Unused materials branches in the outline tree start off collapsed instead of expanded when a file is opened.
The Shell offset input in Element properties is disabled if not already set. Use Element offset in Loads & Constraints instead.
Tooltip in material properties explaining why circular bar/etc. are disabled for CCX line2 and plastic material for linear analysis.
“Load partial solution” button no longer saves “Save after solve” items or writing tables to csv.

Laminate enhancements
Define the layup separately from ply material properties.
You can reuse the same materials for multiple plies and multiple composites.
Failure criteria are on the ply material and can be different for each ply.
Density is on the ply material and can be different for each ply.
Isotropic material is allowed.
Available for the OpenRadioss solver which also has ply stress in the solution.
Density is no longer available in solution formulas for nodes of elements with composite materials.
Breaking changes to Python API functions mw.material_property(), solution.material_property(), and mw.set_material_property() when used for composite properties.
Composites are no longer allowed in thermal and DC current flow analysis types. They were previously ignored.

Internal solver
Errors reported on materials prevent the solver from running.
Shells have physical rotational inertia for out-of-plane rotation.

CalculiX
All 3 poisson’s ratios and all 6 elastic moduli are available for orthotropic material on shells, 2D continuum elements, and composite plies.
Separated Green-Lagrange strain from CCX nonlinear analysis types into its own solution variables. Unqualified strain now means either infinitesimal or logarithmic strain. The names of strain variables in the API and .liml file are changed to prevent accidentally referring to them assuming the old meaning.
Principal strain (logarithmic) output
*ORIENTATION keyword block has additional data line with 0,0 for solids and 3,0 for shells for Abaqus compatibilty.

OpenRadioss
Strain and Principal strain outputs for solids.
Composites.
Enabled reading 1D element mass from OpenRadioss solutions. It's only put into unitless variable and requires a manually defined output request.

Mystran
Custom case control.
Updated Mystran to a recent development version with several bugfixes and some changed default behavior. Mecway is not compatible with v19.0.0.
Changed input decks from large field format to automatically choose large or small dependeing on the number of digits that fit the fields.
Composites with gravity shows a warning because of a bug in Mystran.

Bug fixes
Warning shown where bug 48 can occur. Element orientation with Ramberg-Osgood plastic material with CCX.
Warning shown where bug 49 can occur. Constraint equations on beams with CCX.
Bug 50 - thermal stress load on curved shells with internal solver.
Others.

Multiple selection on the model tree.....yeeah, thanks thanks thanks :-) :-) :-)
  • Hi Victor,

Has the issue regarding the links being solved when using the OpenRadioss solver? There was an issue where the solver would report "Error reading solution. Index was out of bounds of the array"
  • It should be. Bug fixes include reading OpenRadioss solutions with:
    - Both node-surface coupling and beam force or moment output are present.
    - Stress UU when both beams and shells are present.
    - /TH/PART requested.
