Can one save nodes and line elements from Mecway as dxf file?

Hi
Is there an easy way to save nodes and line elements from Mecway as a dxf?

I am doing the FEA on a balsa model fuselage (ASK-18 Balsa model glider) and later would like to send dxf files to a laser cutter.

As you can see I am using Mecway to build the model by clicking on nodes and then making 2d meshes of the fuselage formers. It would be nice if I can save the fuselage former 2d meshes as a dxf somehow.

I hoped GMSH could do it directly but it can't.

Any ideas?

  • All I can think of is to save it as STL and find a tool to convert STL to DXF. Since they're both such popular formats, there must be various options. Here's how to do it with Blender from the top of Google https://www.instructables.com/id/Convert-STL-to-DXF-using-Open-Source-tools/

Watch out for all those little thick edged triangles. They indicate boundaries between tri6 and quad8 where the midside nodes aren't connected. That's probably a consequence of a bug with some of the meshing options which is fixed in Mecway 13. Use Merge nearby nodes to join them properly.
  • Thanks Victor for your suggestion RE STL option.
Also thanks for the suggestion/warning on the tri6. Problem solved:)

    Much appreciated
