Elements on top of each other

Is there a way to find elements which are lying on top of each other?

Is there a way to merge elements lying on top of each other?

  • Some ways to find them:
    A) Turn on node and element numbering and if you see two element numbers superimposed on each other, that indicates two elements at the same location.
    B) If the two elements have some of their own nodes then use View -> Open cracks to visually pull them apart.
    C) If they share all nodes, the solver will show a warning in its progress window.

I'm not sure of an automatic way to delete them. I usually do it by hand one by one. For a large mesh, there might be some regularity you could take advantage of. For example, their element numbers might be higher than the others so you can use Edit -> Select elements by number then delete them.
