Calculix (CCX) 2.17 is out

there looks to be some interesting new developments, in version 2.17:

PaStiX solver; http://pastix.gforge.inria.fr/files/README-txt.html
tetgen mesher; http://wias-berlin.de/software/index.jsp?id=TetGen&lang=1
being able to automatically re-mesh based on solution results

Those are the three that stood out to me.

CCX website is here; http://www.dhondt.de/

  • I use TetGen, it will create meshes from some brutally ugly surfaces, and also has some useful error checking. I believe this is the mesher used in LS-DYNA.
  • Still waiting for Riks or any other arc-length implementation...:(

in the notes it says he implemented mortar contact. that might be useful. not really sure. it looks like it helps with contact and dissimilar meshes.
  • Have someone worked with CFD using CCX?
  • hi sergio,

i haven't used any ccx feature that isn't built into mecway. i just listed some of the interesting things, to me, from the release notes. i have tried various cfd programs that are out there and wasn't impressed with any of them. i doubt i would be thrilled with anything ccx offers wrt cfd. but you never know. maybe one day someone will create a useful and easy to use cfd program that is accurate and runs on a laptop. but i'm not holding my breath.
