Tie causes material penetration

I have a 3D static CCX simulation. With TIE turned off on all my bonded contacts, everything seems to work fine. When I enable TIE there is material penetration on one of the interfaces, it is like the bonded contact is ignored. It is a large simulation >2M nodes and all other interfaces seem to behave well. On the problematic interface the slave interface is the one with the finer resolution mesh. Not sure what is causing this. Any ideas?

Comments

  • Is there any gap or initial penetration there? *TIE ignores surfaces that are too far apart while the default option allows that.

Or any error messages in the output?
  • There appears to be a very small amount of nominal interference between the parts. Would not have noticed that without your help. Thank you.
