Inflation simulation

I have an application where there are two flat plates resistance welded together 1" in from the edges all the way around the perimeter. The plates have an opening where it can be inflated to form a channel. Could this deformation be modeled in Mecway?

  • Yes. You can use Nonlinear Static 3D analysis type with the CCX solver. To join the plates, you probably need edges of the mesh along the boundary of the weld then you can join them with bonded contact or merged nodes if the have the same surface meshes. Use a pressure load on the internal surfaces to inflate it. It can be time dependent (with Analysis settings -> Quasi-static) so you can capture the whole history of the inflation.

It worked. Thanks for the advice.
