Rubber bellow with self contact in Mecway / CalculiX

edited November 2019
Hi, I did a first test of the self contact features showed by @JohnM , using a simple rubber bellow downloaded from Grabcad. 2D mesh was done in Salome, then imported in Mecway to create a 3d mesh by means of a revolution. Lower side is fixed and upper side was applied an axial displacement of 18mm. The contact was defined by means of only one group of faces (all faces interior and exterior in one group).

It tooks about 1'40'' to solve, a first run with two contact sets (one for interior and one for exterior faces) took half the time.

@Victor , can be added an option to save results every n increments (FRECUENCY option on NODE FILE / EL FILE cards)? If I remember well for the internal solver there was an option called decimation similar to this.

Best regards

  • In fairness to the person who taught me this trick, search YouTube for "calculix hyperelastic" to see the example. Interestingly, it is also a bellows!
  • Well, a bellow was the first part that came to my mind to show the self contact feature :-)
  • Version 13 will have the FREQUENCY option.
  • Great, thanks!
