Joining shell and solid elements

Is there anything I should be particularly aware of when joining solid elements and shell elements? Is it as simple as just merging the nodes at the interface between the two elements? Thanks.

You can simply merge the nodes, yes. That will create a hinge joint because an individual node of a solid element can't transmit moments.
If you want a stiff joint, for now, you have to connect the shell across several nodes so that together they prevent free rotation.
