Mindlin Thick Shell - Kirchoff Thin Shell Formulation

Hi,

I understand from the manual that Mindlin formulation (taking shear into account) is used by MECWAY for shell elements by default.
¿What's the reason to specify Shell/membrane in the Material menu / Geometric sheet when a Shell element is being defined?
¿Is there another shell formulation available in MECWAY solver or CCX?

Thanks in advance

  • The reason for specifying shell/membrane is just an organizational thing to enable the thickness parameter and disable all the irrelevant beam parameters/etc.

The CCX solver expands shell elements to solids so it's not really using a shell formulation at all.
