heat transfer in ground

edited November 2014
Hi
I would like to calculate the energy needed to keep a room below ground at a constant temperature during a year were the outside air temperature (connected to the ground) varies for each hour. Is it possible to connect a varying temperature as a boundary?

Yes - using the Thermal Transient analysis type:
    1) Select the faces which are to have this varying temperature
    2) Apply a "Temperature" constraint by right clicking Loads & Constraints in the outline tree
    3) When you set the properties for this Temperature constraint, choose "Table" and enter a list of time-temperature pairs. You can also paste this in from a spreadsheet.

The values in the table are points on a piecewise linear function, so the actual temperature will be interpolated from them.
