Pressure vessel

edited November 2014
Hi
I have imported a pressure vessel model as shell element. The vessel has a nozzle and a small tube attached to it.
Now, I did the mesh but it seems tube and vessel are not connected... nodes are not coincident.
I try to refine the mesh and also to merge nodes.... no way to make it works.
What to do?
Any help?
Thanks

As delta says, it will be easier with a file to look at.

I suspect this is going to be difficult though. Since the nodes are not coincident, there's no generally easy way to join them. Some possibilities:

    A) Manually move them to be coincident by dragging, then use merge where they're close enough.

    B) If the flange is simply a ring and the vessel is a cylinder where the flange is connected, then you could build a new flange from the edge of the vessel:
    1) Select the ring of shell faces adjacent to the edge of the vessel.
    2) Extrude in the normal direction with the thickness being the width of the flange.
    3) This gives a solid flange. Convert it back to shells using Mesh tools -> Hollow.
    4) Delete the extra shells that are neither flange nor vessel.

  • mattone, can you upload the .step files? you can try using FreeCAD to "union" them together then import into Mecway for meshing.
