selecting face elements

using the "select faces" button, what about an option to select faces with partial lasso encapsulation. for example, solidworks allows selection of component if dragging from the left without full encapsulation but requires full encapsulation to select if dragging from the right. or some other similar method. I select these elements one at a time using cntrl.

Face and element selection really need cleaning up. Partial and full lassoing could be part of the solution.

I almost exclusively use Select nodes with Show element surfaces off because it's more predictable and Edge detecting selection because it's quick, then change to nodes/faces/elements to convert to them.

In this case, edge detecting selection looks like it would be easiest.

Not sure if you are aware of this feature.?¿?
Sometimes it's easier to group on the parent geometry than selecting on the mesh.
You can select faces based on the Step geometry. Like in the picture.
All the elements on that specific face will be linked.
