Advice on mesh definition

Hi,

Please refer to the attached file.
I’m trying to model a concrete bridge deck with pipes inside. The problem is that pipes should start from each side. For the first 7 elements, the deck should be solid.
Is there any way to modify the mesh?

Thanks,

  • Yep,

-Select all the holes inside surface with the edge detecting tool.
-Extrude to the inside direction (normal) to create the solid pipe. Recommended three elements per thickness
    -Inmediately create a new component.
-Hide all but the new component and erase the length you don’t need.

In case you need solid fill of concrete in the middle, here's an extra trick you might need:

  • Thanks for your reply but unfortunately I can't work it out.
I should create a solid cylinder over the first 7 elements rather than an inner pipe.

By using the JohnM's trick, how can I get a solid 3D element?
  • use the extrude command in mesh tools. you can extrude with a thickness and layers that will match your existing concrete.
  • I've tried but I get conpenetration of elements that I can't improve.
  • @andreac91 see attached using method above. You should be able to delete any number of layers to achieve your desired result.
