Thermal analysis combined to static stress analysis

Hello everyone,

In the world of pressure vessel it can sometimes happen that you have to combine a thermal analysis with a stress analysis.

Is it possible import results of thermal analysis in static stress analysis?

Thanks to all and good Sunday

  • Loads & Constraints -> Transfer temperatures from solution. More details in Help -> Tutorials section 2.4 Thermal Stress.
  • Fantastic!
    Thank you Victor
  • There are two options available in Calculix.

7.129 *UNCOUPLED TEMPERATURE-DISPLACEMENT step - thermal and mechanical analyses are solved sequentially - thermal simulation is followed by mechanical one in each increment and thus there’s no feedback from mechanical analysis to thermal one within the same increment.

7.25 *COUPLED TEMPERATURE-DISPLACEMENT step - thermal and mechanical analyses are solved simultaneously and thus coupling works in both ways - temperature influences displacements and displacements influence temperature. ( in case the contact area changes for example).

They would allow to obtain the mechanical response to a thermal process like what LorenzoS is asking for.

From my point of view MECWAY has all the ingredients to be able to make them work but actually the set up needs to be done by means of custom cards and once the analysis is finished seems the MECWAY GUI is not ready yet to read/represent the results properly.

I'm talking for example about the thermomech.inp included in the ccx library of examples. This are the results but for some reason MECWAY doesn't represent them correctly yet.
