Useful Tools

Last post by @disla was a nice update on the dynamics robustness.
The videos posted are big, it made me think to share a few tools that we use (all free) that make our lives a little easier:

HandBrake
https://handbrake.fr/
Video encoder. As an example, I converted disla's mpegs to mp4, with file size 1/10 of original.

Tracker
https://physlets.org/tracker/
Adapt video test observation to data - watch this:

Graph Grabber
https://www.quintessa.org/software/downloads-and-demos/graph-grabber-2.0.2
Convert hardcopy plots to data

iSpring Free Cam
https://download.cnet.com/iSpring-Free-Cam/3000-13633_4-77361772.html
Video capture

Other worth Googling
: FreeCAD, Octave (OS Matlab), OpenFoam (CFD), OpenModelica (1D systems), FEMM (Magnetics)

  • Very nice set. Thanks JohnM. That Graph Grabber shows a bit more polish than the (free) Engauge Digitizer I've been using.
  • I have found this very useful and I have use it for many years now.
It is a free interpolation tool addon for Excel.
Sometimes we get tabular results from an analisys that don't match with the desired time point or displacement increment. This tool has the formula Interpo and Interpo2 among others (cubic interpolation) wich basically interpolates. Interpolation can be made also in 2D. This allows to extract from diferent results with different scales and ranges a common/desired dataset.
