Beam element to stresses using a mesh

Hi Guys

Not exactly a Mecway question, however I thought that it may be a good forum to ask.

Beam elements on any FEA software generally present results in terms of moments, shear forces and axial loads. These loads can also be presented in terms of stresses, however this does get a bit more complex when there are torsional loads.

I have developed some nifty code which develops a mesh over a specified region, the mesh is 2D. Thus it is easy to develop a mesh for structural sections such as angles, I sections etc... Is there any way to take the shear forces, moments and axial loads from a beam element and in some way assign it to the mesh to develop stresses? Note the mesh will be of the cross section of the element.

I know this can be done using basic mechanics however when dealing with complex shapes the problem becomes a bit more challenging.
