Tubular to Tubular Quad Mapped Meshing

Hi All, I am trying to do a quad mapped meshing for a tubular to tubular connection, i have built my geometry in Salome, and have partitioned my geometry for mapped meshing. Attached are all Individual step files, tried to attach a salome .hdf file but it does not allow me. My conundrum is if fuse them and partition them, the chord surface area inside the brace is having trouble for a mapped geometry. It works perfectly for a pipe , like that of a pipe Tee section but for a structural tubular to tubular , i am struggling. Any tips or any other smart approaches.

  • i imported ur geometries into rhino, trimmed the intersections, fused the surfaces together then used quadremesh to generate the first mesh -I also imported the trimmed fused surface to propomax (it has some nice meshing options) to generate the second mesh

  • actually mecways netgen mesher does quite a good job
  • Hi Fatmac, much appreciated for your response, i am getting decent mesh in Salome as well, however, i am interested in the tube to tube area to be meshed as well, as tis is typical offshore jacket tubular joint not an open pipe. See as per below image.

  • By splitting the main part with the 2 branched tubes, importing all the bits into prepomax then making a compound I managed to generate a conformal quad mesh

  • mecways netgen mesher does a nice job on the split parts also -I had to merge some of the nodes after to make it one part though
  • Many Thanks Fatmac, much appreciated.
