rolling a strip into circular shape

Hi,
I have some experience in FEA analysis (Ansys) but I am quite new to Mecway.

I am stuck with the following problem: a thin (1.2mm) Polycarbonate surface that needs to be bent into a circular shape (obtaining a cylinder with a diameter of 900 mm and axis coincident with the z-axis); it is a problem very similar to the one shown in the manual par. 6.2.1 (see attached image). The surface has some details with different thickness, so I decided to model it using a 3d mesh instead of several surfaces with different thickness.
I have no idea how to apply the constraint to make it circular; I tried imposing an “x” displacement field as a function of the y coordinate but got an error. I don't know if I need to use a script in python; I have some experience with it but have never used it in Mecway.
The constraint should be applied only to the small track, see where I applied the pressure in the liml file.

Thanks for the help

I have worked a little on the mesh. I have meshed the section and later extrude it. With a good mesh is much faster.(3 min)
The FEA model will be better driven imposing a rotation. Be sure to evaluate correctly the forces needed to achieve that rotation and which tool will be able to do it without damaging the lip.
It would be great to see this solved with internal shells + Openradioss.
  • thank you!

How did you improve the mesh? Did you use only Mecway or another software? I saw on this forum that many people use Salome.

    Thank you again!
  • Only Mecway. Handmade. Start with very simple rectangles (10) and later custom refinement.
    Extrude only at the end.
