compression deformation

So I've got an o-ring bumper and a barbell shaped bumper. The o-ring rests on a surface and the inner face of the barbell is flat and resting on the same surface (The rest of the barbell rests below that surface). I'd like to deform both by .45mm and see how they deform. The issue is that the o-ring obviously doesn't have a flat surface anywhere. How would you suggest that I model the plate that is compressing the oring and barbell end?

    Mesh the plate and use contact with the CCX solver and Nonlinear Static 3D.

    If the plate is effectively rigid, you can use a very coarse mesh, like one huge element.
