Mecway 26

Mecway 26 is now available at the link below and includes the Spanish language manual translated by Germán Bresciano.

Changes:

GUI
Tape measure and node info box update with changes to time or field variable.
Unit dropdown in node info box is below the coordinates, which it applies to, instead of at the bottom of the box.
Zooming on timeline graph using mouse wheel or left-drag and context menu item “Reset zoom”.
Grid lines on timeline graph. Turn on/off with context menu.
Low importance error messages displayed as warnings in orange instead of red.
Material properties windows opens on the first tab with a valid material type.
Loads and constraints applied to geometry surfaces without a mesh no longer show an error message.
Text input areas for CCX custom model definition and custom step contents use a monospaced font.

Internal solver
Incompatible hex8 elements for all 3D mechanical analysis types with both solvers. Generally superior to standard hex8. Enabled by default for new models.
Dependent/slave DOFs of MPCs can appear as independent/master DOFs of other MPCs. This allows you to chain Node-surface couplings or bonded contacts together and put constraints on bonded contact master nodes.
Improved convergence test for compression-only support.
Distributed loads on beams generate moments as well as forces.
Faster solving for tension-only elements.
Convergence graph for Static 3D shows number of changed contacts instead of number of closed contacts, and shows displacement error.
Doesn't solve if an element orientation is defined incorrectly.

CCX solver
No longer generates contact state by default because it can create a big slow .cel file.
Custom CCX material input in material properties.
For Custom step contents, removed the deprecated option to insert it before *NODE FILE.
Deprecated "End time" for "Regular time points" in Analysis settings. The default (0) now means end time = time period.

Basic support for 3rd party open source explicit dynamics solver OpenRadioss. I'll make another post with more details.

  • What is the preferred method for updating Mecway?

    1. Install new version and leave old version(s) installed?
    2. Install new version and remove old version(s)?
    3. Remove old version(s) and install new version?

I've noticed that new versions don't seem to mind coexisting with previous versions.

  • The IT guy has installed today the new version, and it looks like it uninstall automaticly the old one. I didn´t pay attention if there was a check box for doing that.
  • Previous versions would all co-exist by default but now (26+), it automatically uninstalls the old one (25+) retaining its settings and file associations.

You can copy 25 to somewhere else before installing 26.
  • I haven't installed 26 yet, but the new version doing an uninstall of the previous one answers the question.
  • There is a problem with windows remote desktop, and Mecway is installed on the remote PC. When logging out of remote desktop and logging in again, the models opened in Mecway software cannot be displayed unless Mecway is restarted. Please give me some advices, thank you.
  • @Tao, I've heard of this same problem from one other person before. Did you experience it with previous versions too?
  • @Victor, Yes, at least V24 and V25 have the same problem, and a professional GPU from NVIDIA is installed on remote PC.
  • @Tao, I've had that issue too, since september 2022 and have kept @Victor informed of whatever things I've noticed. I am also using an Nvidia graphics card (Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000). It seems that the issue is with Direct3D as trying to print while the graphics is missing gives the error "Direct3D error. screen capture failed. D3DERR_DEVICELOST: Device lost (-2005530520)".
  • I would like to know more about incompatible Hex8 elements.
Where can I find the shape functions of this formulation?
  • @German It's according to

Three-Dimensional Static and Dynamic Analysis of Structures A Physical Approach With Emphasis on Earthquake Engineering, 3rd edition, by Edward L. Wilson, Chapter 6. Incompatible elements.
  • Hi. The only option to buy Mecway is the USD 500 one?. There is no "enthusiast" special price? (PS I know USD 500 is not a big deal for this kind of software)
  • @jaros No non-commercial price anymore, sorry.
  • No worries. Thanks
