Catenary Form and Tension finding.

Hi Victor,

I’m working to solve the catenary problem with different approaches.
I’m receiving a warning from the solver which seems a bug that I have confirmed indirectly when switching to Nonlinear Quasi-Static. (See pic)
Gravity effect is not applied to Only Tension Materials because it doesn’t find the material density.
Not sure if this is a ccx limitation or just a pre-processor error. (We talk about material definition redundancy in other post).

*WARNING in calinput: no density was assigned to material TENSION_ONLY in a dynamic calculation or a calculation with
centrifugal or gravitational loads.

Yes, there are two *SHELL SECTIONs for the same elements, so they can conflict. Remove the material from the component in Mecway to prevent it generating that.

Catenaries are pretty difficult but it is possible to model a straight line and let gravity pull it into the curved shape if you're very gentle with the loads (gravity and pre-tension), apply them in a stable sequence, and make sure the material has some of its own bending stiffness.
