Non-linear 304 Stainless bending

Hi!

I'm attaching a pic to show what it looks like. Basically this curved piece of metal is sitting on a platform. It is anchored at one end. When the red tool comes down it hits the metal and crimps it, with the result that the metal bends upward distal to the tool. When I modelled this in a static linear fashion it actually did pretty well simulating the deformation when using a compression only support. I'd like to fine tune this using a non-linear analysis. Any thoughts on doing the compression only for a non-linear case? Are there tutorials for this I can look through? Any 304SS material curves for non-linear modelling?

Appreciate the input!!

Thanks!

  • For nonlinear, use contact instead of compression-only support. You'd need to make a mesh of the platform too. It could perhaps just be a single big element.

I don't know about your other questions, sorry.
  • Thanks for the input!! Will let you know how it goes!
