Shell elements

I am looking for some clarity regarding shell elements:

1 How do one know which is the inner and outer surface?

2 The stress range displayed in the legend stays the same irrespective of the surface selected. How do one get this display specific to the surface selected?

Hello Johan_S

1. You can show the orientation by turning on Show element axes. The blue line is on the "Upper Surface", also the positive local W axis direction.

2. The stress for the two surfaces is shown directly on those surfaces. So rotate the view to see the stress on the other side. I'm aware that this is often inconvenient and there's no option to clearly show the midplane stress so the next version (v8) will allow you to view them separately.
