beams element perpendicularity

Hello.
I am trying to find a way to impose perpendicularity during deformation of 2 "I" beam elements at the node joining them (static analysis).
Could you help me on this?
Many thanks in advance!

  • I'm not sure if I understand you, but it sounds like you want to prevent them from deforming, so they act as a rigid body? A simple way is to set a very high Young's modulus.

If you only want to constrain their joint to 90 degrees but still allow the rest of the beams to deform, then that's the default behavior for beams joined at a common node and they should already be doing this.

  • Oops, sorry: I was not clear enough.
In attachment a quick simplification of the situation: keep element 1 and 2 at 90° at node 2.
    Philippe.

  • Shame on me: simply wrong lecture of the results. They stay naturally at 90°...
    Sorry for disturbance.
And by the way: great job that you did, Victor.

  • OK no problem.
